Sobriety In The San Juan’s is a reboot of the old Serenity In The San Juan’s event that was held in the San Luis Valley (SLV) of Colorado for a number of years. I came into AA in 2009. I was told that the event used to be held at the Beaver Creek Youth Camp. However due to overwhelming costs, the event was moved to Ft. Garland on the east side of the SLV. The event declined in attendance over the years at Ft. Garland, and was eventually dropped.
So, in 2017, We started looking to restart the event. After looking around for locations, we approached Beaver Creek Youth Camp to see what it would cost to have the event there. It turned out that the camp had revised their pricing, and they also added a Dormitory facility. With this news, we reserved a date, the last weekend of September, and rebooted the event. We renamed it as Sobriety, instead of Serenity, do differentiate the event from the past in Ft. Garland. Now in our 3rd season, we are excited to announce our latest event for the weekend of September 27-29, 2019!
The weather in the San Juan Mountains is brisk in the fall, and the Aspen’s and Fall Colors are generally winding down, but still beautiful. We expect you will find Serenity here as well as great Recovery events.
